Marie Evans

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Marie Nancy DeMatteo Evans, 75, who died Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 12:12 am. at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice.

Fr. Mark Miley, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 11 a.m. by the St. Michael’s Rosary Group. The burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans was a native of Hartford, CT and a longtime resident of Crowley. She retired from the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpman with 20 years of service. While serving her country in the US Navy, she was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal (3), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (5), Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, National Defense Medal (2), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Pistol (Expert Sharpshooter) Shot Ribbon. She and her husband are members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

Marie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Arnold Dean Evans of Crowley; two daughters, Lisa Christine Evans Ganim and her husband Salem of Kingwood, TX, Karyn Heather Evans Morgan and her husband Kevin of Magnolia, TX; one son, CDR Michael Dean Evans (US Navy) and his wife Kate of Fredericksburg, VA; one brother, John Andrew DeMatteo, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Rotunda West, FL; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine Gamble DeMatteo; one nephew, Michael John DeMatteo; one sister-in-law, Irene DeMatteo; her in-laws, Charles “Buck” and Flora Idell Evans.
