Margie M Melby, age 86, of Rhinelander, died on August 17, 2025. in Rhinelander. She was born on November 6, 1938, in Enterprise, Wisconsin, the daughter of Everett and Hazel (Smith) Jenkins. She attended schools in Pelican Lake and Elcho but left early to help take care of her siblings and work on the family farm. She married Laurence Melby on May 24, 1958 and they were married for over 58 years.
Margie shared a lot of adventures with her husband and children. Margie did all the upholstery of there Model T ford, to include the roof. She won a trophy driving it blindfolded, the first time she had ever driven it! She was a hard worker with many a talent, including being a strong woman. She had made family wedding dresses, wedding cakes, took care of many sick family and helped them through hard times.
Margie was an excellent cook , and baker, no one ever walked away hungry! She could make something out of almost nothing!
She had her big gardens and raised animals to help feed her family. Her special interests were music, playing piano, guitar and singing and reading.
Margie left behind her words of wisdom. ” If you think you have it so bad, look around you. There’s always someone worse off then you” and be thankful for what you have, and tomorrow is another day”! She will be remembered fondly by many as, “Moma Marge”, “MayMa”, and of course Aunt Margie, she can fix anything! An she also referred to herself on phone calls as,” This is Old Lady Melby”! She would put herself last like most mothers do.
Margie is survived by her daughters Chris (Tim) Sisel, Pamela (Mike) Kottke and Dana (Dan Crass) Melby, her sons Boone (Melissa) Melby and Daniel (Stacy) Melby, her daughter in law MaryJayne Melby, whom Margie loved like her own daughter, her six grandchildren Timothy (Heidi) Sisel, Chelsea (Jordon) Davies, Jonathon (Ashlee) Melby, Mason, Carter and Charlee Jo Melby, her seven great grandchildren Ella and Marceline Sisel, Grayson, Penelope and Salem Melby, Jordan and Cora Davies, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Laurence on September 7, 2016, and her son Carl Melby on August 19, 2024 and her eight siblings.
Graveside services for Margie will be held at the Forest Home Cemetery on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 1200 Noon. You may also leave your private condolences for the Melby family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Melby family.
