Lillian Carney Youngblood, born April 20, 1934, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and the comforting presence of her Lord and Savior.
Born to Ovid and Elsie Carney in Fletcher, North Carolina, she attended Fletcher High School and Brevard College, where she played basketball. She started her career with Southern Bell and then became a homemaker, managing her husband Jack, three children, and all their activities. Lillian enjoyed sports and supported her children and grandchildren participating in basketball, football, volleyball, and baseball. Her latest excitement was watching her great-grandson, Rhett, become an amazing baseball player. Lillian and Jack enjoyed traveling to Florida, where they lived part-time for many years. She loved the sun and beach and was not a cold-weather person.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC. She enjoyed music and could play the piano by ear. She sang in her church choir for many years, which brought her much joy and many friendships that she treasured. Lillian also loved participating in First Baptist Church’s “The Messiah” Christmas musical.
Lillian’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved fiercely and prayed for continually. She is survived by her daughter, Jacky Youngblood of Fletcher, NC, two sons, Victor Youngblood (Kelly) and Tim Youngblood (Caroline), of Fuquay-Varina, NC; two grandchildren, Hannah Barker (Kyle) of Fletcher, NC, and Grace Youngblood of Jacksonville, FL; and two great-grandchildren, Rhett and Lilly Barker. She is preceded by death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Youngblood; daughter, Valerie Jean; grandson, Grant Youngblood; two brothers, Richard and Bill Carney; two sisters, Casille Wilson and Edna Fowler; parents, Ovid and Elsie Carney.
Lillian’s family would like to give special thanks to the care teams at The Lodge at Mills River and Four Seasons Hospice for Lillian’s care. A graveside service and burial will be held on Friday, September 12, at 10:00 am at Oakdale Cemetery with Pastor Steve Scoggins officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
