Lido Kondo

With heavy hearts we sadly announce the passing of Lido Kondo on June 28th, 2025. He passed peacefully in Cambridge Manor, Calgary, at the age of 97 years.

Born March 5th, 1928 to Tadashi “Henry” and Matsui Kondo on a farm in the Lyalta district, Lido was the second oldest of 7 children. His destiny as farmer came when his father tragically passed away in a car accident when Lido was 17 years old. Leaving school before his grade 12 graduation, he began the next phase of his life; managing the family farm. He helped raise and care for his younger siblings.

Lido met and married Echi Takaguchi at the Buddhist Church in Picture Butte. This union gave them two daughters, then two granddaughters, and now a great-grandson.

He was a member of the Lyalta Community and a lifetime member of the Cheadle Lions Club. When called upon, he always volunteered willingly. He enjoyed activities like golfing, curling, fishing, running, walking, and square dancing.

Lido was predeceased by his wife, Echi; older sister Lily (Tetsuo Nakaguchi), Joan (Mas Nakamura), and brother Don (Nancy Kondo). He is survived by his daughters Sharon (Rick Plante) and Colleen; his granddaughters Niki (Phil Deap) and Lauren (Brendan Farris); great-grandson Arlo; younger sisters Lucy (Bob Nakashima), Nancy (Hiro Takeda), and June (Bill Terakita); and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Cheadle Lions Club (mail to 10 Malone Ave, Cheadle, AB, T1P 0X8) or the Calgary Buddhist Temple.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Hope Community Covenant Church (Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m.
