Leonard Harrison Brown (affectionately known as Skip) passed away on October 4, 2024, at the age of 70, in his home in Walnut Creek, CA. Born August 15, 1954, Leonard grew into a man deeply rooted in family values. He was known for being well-read and a fierce chess player. Leonard also enjoyed challenging conversations and looked forward to discussing current events, the economy, political issues, local, national, and international news, and sports with anyone and everyone.
Leonard’s education journey began at John Green Leaf Whittier Primary School in Philadelphia, PA. He continued his education and graduated from Edgewood Regional High School in Winslow Township NJ in 1973.
He spent his early career as a member of Teamsters, Local 107. He was a professional truck driver who worked for companies such as Sears, West Drug, and McKesson Drug company. He later transitioned to the security industry, where he worked for Apple, various healthcare systems, and hotels. Leonard was highly respected by his colleagues for his integrity and dedication.
Leonard had various hobbies and interests. He was an avid player of cards and chess. A memory he reminisced about often was playing a challenging game of chess with his dad. Leonard loved music, especially jazz; he cultivated this love during his time at WRTI in Philadelphia. Leonard loved to travel and especially enjoyed time spent with his family at Myrtle Beach. These activities reflected his strategic thinking, patience, and love for family.
Leonard was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Brown, and father, Leonard A. Brown. Leonard is survived by his loving partner, Dwanda Davis, and his sisters, Leonette Covington Gaines (Richard) and Roslyn Boskett (Melvin). He was a cherished uncle to Clarence Covington (Niamah), Lynee McKinsey (Lance), and Monique Boskett. He also leaves to mourn his great-nephew, great-nieces, cousins, family, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, 3:00 PM – 6:00PM at 8 Jason Dr, Berlin NJ, 08009 (Ros’s house) to celebrate Leonard’s life and legacy. His family and friends will remember his jovial spirit, unwavering commitment to his family, his warmth, and most importantly – his love.
