Kathryn A. (Schmahl) Jaehnig

Kathryn A. (Schmahl) Jaehnig, age 86, formerly of the Village of Cleveland, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center where she resided since August 2022.

Kathryn was born February 2, 1939, in Sheboygan to Rev. Carl & Emelia (Bohne) Schmahl. She attended grade school at Elm Grove School, graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Lakeland College.

In her early working years, Kathryn worked at Wigwam Mills Inc, Lakeland College, Security Travel, and retired from AAA Travel Agency in Sheboygan. She often served as a tour guide which took her to places such as Germany, Australia, and Russia.

On June 27, 1959, she married Melvin A. “Buddy” Jaehnig, at St. Mark United Church of Christ in the Town of Mosel. Melvin “Buddy” preceded her in death on June 15, 2015.

Kathryn was a member of both St. Mark United Church of Christ in the Town of Mosel and St. James United Church of Christ in Spring Valley where she was the main organist at both churches for over 65 years. She was also a member of the VFW Ladie’s Auxiliary in Cleveland and volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drives.

Survivors include her four nephews, David Jaehnig of Cleveland, Dennis (Marsha) Jaehnig of California, and Larry Tonn & Terry Tonn, both of California; two nieces, Kathy (Thomas) Lefeber of Kiel and Diane Murphy of Utah. Kathryn is further survived by her cousin, Dorothy (William) Mueller of rural Manitowoc; a very dear friend, Joann Fessler; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Melvin “Buddy”; her parents, Rev. Carl & Emelia Schmahl; her brothers-in-law, Robert (Caroline) Jaehnig and Edward Jaehnig; a sister-in-law, Jeanette (Robert) Tonn; and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. James United Church of Christ in Spring Valley (13312 Pioneer Road, Newton, WI 53063). Rev. Dr. Patrick Schultz, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place in the church cemetery following the service.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Kathryn’s family at St. James United Church of Christ Church on Wednesday, June 4th from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM.

Kathryn’s family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care given to her during the past 2 ½ years and also the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice care givers assisting with their compassionate care recently.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in her name.
