Karen Elizabeth Moreau, 69, passed away on August 31, 2025, after a long illness at Autumn Care in Waynesville, NC.
Karen was born in North Adams, Massachusetts, and grew up in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont. Her family moved to Florence, SC, when Karen was fourteen and she graduated from West Florence High School. She went on to obtain a BA in Elementary Education from Francis Marion College, an MA in Special Education from Winthrop University, and an MA in Library Science from the University of South Carolina.
Karen loved sharing books with children. She worked as a Children’s Librarian at Darlington County Library for thirty-three years. Upon retirement Karen moved to western North Carolina. Karen loved music and loved the Lord. She enjoyed playing her flute whenever she had a chance, especially for church services and in nursing homes. When she was a teenager Karen traveled with a group of young people to minister to underprivileged children in Guatemala.
Karen is survived by her sister, Denise (Danny) Sherrill, in Hendersonville, NC, her brother, Robert (Patricia) Moreau, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, three nieces, Elisabeth Pruitt, Lorraine Roth, and Sarah Beth Redmond, and four nephews, Christopher Moreau, David Moreau, Jeffrey Moreau, and Drew Sherrill. Karen is predeceased by her father, Leo Moreau, her mother, Lorraine Moreau, and her brother, Michael Moreau.

A celebration of life for Karen will be held at Florence Memorial Gardens, Florence, SC, at 11 AM on Saturday October 4, 2025.
