Julian Blasi

Julian Frank Blasi, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 1, 1937, he was the son of Nicholis Blasi and Anna Megna, who both emigrated from Italy to the United States.

Deeply rooted in his hometown, Julian spent his entire life contributing to the betterment of the community. He proudly served his country as a veteran, in the army and army reserves for twenty years, and later channeled his dedication into public service and local business.

In 1960, Julian founded Creative Counter Tops, a successful millwork business located on Dutchess Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie. For four decades, he owned and operated the company, known for its craftsmanship, until his retirement in 2000.

Julian was also a committed civic leader. He was actively involved in the City Democratic Party and served with distinction on the Poughkeepsie Common Council from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, including many years as Chairperson. His leadership reflected his enduring commitment to the vitality of the City of Poughkeepsie.

Julian is survived by his wife Judith Clemente and extended family members. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Shields Blasi, who passed away on March 2, 1991.

Julian had a wide circle of long-time friends, many of whom he grew up with and stayed in contact with throughout his life. Their regular lunches, poker games, Super Bowl parties, and dinners out, were always enjoyed and fondly remembered by him. He truly appreciated the support and help of his family, friends and neighbors, especially their calls and visits, and the care he received from his wonderful aide Anjonie and all of the staff from Hudson Valley Hospice.

Julian will be remembered for his love of cooking (especially large pots of soup he distributed to neighbors and friends), expert craftsmanship, storytelling, passion for sports and news, puzzle and model making, sense of humor, knowledge of history and ongoing support of democratic values.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., with services at 11:00 a.m. at William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York on Friday, May 30, 2025. Burial at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery will follow.
