Joyce “Janice” Redd quietly and peacefully slipped away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Joyce was born on June 14, 1945, to the parents of Samuel and Emma Redd. Joyce was one of eight children. She entered this world as part of a duo. One sister (Jeanette) was born on the 13th while Joyce patiently waited a few minutes more for a day of her own. It is fitting that Joyce was born on a holiday, not a big one but an unforgettable one, nonetheless. Unforgettable is just one word that could be used to describe Janice, once you met her, you weren’t going to forget her. You might forget her name but not the person.
She was educated in the Chester Upland School District and worked as a housekeeper at Best Western for many years. Joyce was a wrestling fan, enjoyed watching karate movies, going to bingo, playing cards, eating her pig’s feet and spending time with family. She had a great love for her family and was completely devoted to protecting them and the Redd name. Joyce did not gossip, did not share secrets, she had a welcoming and unassuming spirit that made her a favorite of everyone that met her. She wore her feelings and her wishes on her sleeves and out of her mouth. There was no holding back. She was and will always be unapologetically ‘Jan-Jen’ to those who knew and loved her.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Mary Redd. Her son, Brian Redd {Katisha}, Two sisters, Yvonne Gillette {Truitt} and Sharon Redwood. 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly. Joyce was preceded in death by her oldest son, Rubin Redd, her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
