Jose Mares Rico

Jose Manuel Mares Rico was born on November 22, 1932, and passed away on September 6, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 92. He was born in La Quemada, San Felipe, Guanajuato, Mexico.

He is survived by his wife Zenaida Mares, with whom he was married for 72 years. He is also survived by his sister Mariana Huerta, 4 sons, 9 daughters, 35 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He migrated to the United States (La Feria, Texas) in 1954.

Jose Manuel was a Jehovah’s Witness and a man with a strong faith and an active member of the Soledad Spanish Congregation. He lived a humble life rooted in faith, family and generosity. He was always a very organized, kind, and respectful person. His habit was to read the daily Bible text. So much so that 15 minutes before he died, he asked to have it read to him.

Jose Manuel’s door was always open and always made sure that his visitors had something to eat. He will be remembered for his enduring strength.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
