John Grimes

John Grimes

John Grimes

John Leslie Grimes, embarked on his next adventure on November 14, 2025. John was

the last of seven boys and they had one sister. He liked saying he was the seventh of

the seventh son, born on April 6, 1938, in Kingston, OK, to Rosco C. and Edna Frances

(Everitt) Grimes.

John lived a life that was as vibrant and full of color as the landscapes he loved to

explore. A natural-born adventurer, he found joy and peace in the great outdoors,

whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply soaking in the beauty of nature.

As a skilled auto mechanic and business owner, he was able to travel from state to state

whenever he got that restless feeling that came ever so often. Opening a transmission

service center or building homes to flip, wherever he decided to land.

His love for sports, and devotion as a loyal fan to the Texas Rangers and the Dallas

Cowboys, was rivaled only by his love for his family, who were the true north of his

compass heart.

John was raised in a beautiful Christian family and believed in the truth found in the

Holy Bible. Like many of us, he was way too hard on himself! Thinking he had to earn

his way back to Jesus and feeling that he was not deserving. But through many hours of

prayer, discussions and reading the scriptures he renewed his faith and was baptized in

later years of his life. Understanding that it is by faith that we are counted righteous and

his faith spurred him on to pray for his loved ones and especially his children and

grandchildren. He loved color and creating or renewing things with his hands. He had

acquired an impressive collection of gel pens and adult coloring books and found joy in

the simple act of coloring, each stroke a testament to his vibrant spirit.

John’s legacy of love, adventure, and resilience is carried forward by his children:

Keith Grimes and wife, Debra, David Grimes, James Grimes and wife, Tracey, Delores Gillespie and husband, James, and Debra Barnett, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-

grandchildren and lots of loving extended family. He now joins his parents, Roscoe and

Edna, and all of his siblings, Harold Grimes, Leland Grimes, Welborn Grimes, Oweeta

John, Raymond Grimes and Coy Don Grimes, in the great beyond, his adventurous

spirit is now free.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Friday, November 21, 2025, at Wiley Funeral Home,

400 East US Highway 377, Granbury, Texas, 76048. The service will follow on

Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1pm, at the same location. John will be laid to rest at

Tin Top Cemetery, 320 Old Tin Top Road, Weatherford, Texas.

Let us remember John not with sorrow, but with joy and gratitude for the life he lived and the love he shared.
