March 29, 1935 – June 17, 2025
Tuesday, June 17, 2025 John Vanderleest closed his eyes for the last time. He has joined his wife Elsa and his granddaughter Mika where they will be together for eternity. John will be missed by all who loved him and had the pleasure of knowing him.
John will be remembered by his living legacy, his children; Brady, Michael, Ken (Randi), Karl (Michelle), and Janna; grandchildren Warren and Nicole; great-granddaughter Leddy; sisters Willi (Jack), Toni (Wayne), and Petra, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins, with a ton of friends along the way.
John was predeceased by his loving wife, Elsa; granddaughter, Mika Kimmiley-Anne; sisters, Francis and Kathy; brothers Toni and Leo; and parents Nellie (Petronella) and William (Wilhelmus) Vanderleest.
John loved to work with wood, to look at a pile of timber and create anything from beautiful cabinetry to garages, and even creating homes for his family to grow old in, and raise the next generation to carry on his legacy. John raised his family by the actions of his character; integrity, honor, respect and the worth of a hard day’s work. He loved his family; he enjoyed to watch them grow up and soar into their own paths in life. To know that they would land on their feet when the storms of life came their way, and to know that they had each other when times were good or rough.
A donation can be made in John’s name to the Drayton Valley Hospital Auxiliary.
A funeral Mass for John will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church July 2nd, 2025 at 12:00PM
