Joan Puchyr

Joan A. Puchyr, 65, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Wynn Hospital in Utica. She was born in Rome on September 14, 1959, a daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Hubal) Puchyr. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and the University of Dayton.

Joan had a long career working for the NYS Department of Corrections before retiring in 2021.

Joan was avid bowler and golfer and belonged to Shamrock Golf Course. She was a member of the Rome Elks Lodge #96, the Ukrainian Club, American Legion and Moose Club of Punta Gorda, FL.

She is survived by her long-time companion, Suzanne Tagliaferri; a sister, Delores Smith (Edward); a brother, Thaddeus Puchyr (Diane); and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Puchyr.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joan’s memory to the Humane Society of Rome.
