Joan Giamboy
Joan Elizabeth Giamboy of Sicklerville, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born in Philadelphia to the late Howard S. and Mary M. (Thornhill) Whittle, Joan grew up in Fishtown and attended Kensington High School.
It was there in Philadelphia that she met the love of her life, Michael George Giamboy, Sr., a proud Marine veteran of the Korean War. They were married before his deployment and upon his return from service, began their family and built a beautiful life together, until his passing in 2006.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother, Joan’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her children Michael, Jr. (Patricia), the late Anthony “Pat” (Margaret), Joanne, Robert (Michele), and Joseph (Lori). She was the cherished grandmother of Michael III, Phillip Sr., Anna, Mary Elizabeth, James, Robert Jr., William, Kelly, Tyler, Evan, Emily, and Erin; great-grandmother to Elizabeth, Lena, Phillip Jr., Matthew, Patrick, Zachary, Miles, Harlan, Charlotte, Margo, Rose, Angelina, Rian, Jordan, and William; and great-great-grandmother to Phillip III and Rosalie. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Peggy and Bob.
Joan was known for her warmth, humor, and generosity. She was a homemaker for most of her life, devoted to her family, and later worked at The Lodge Condominiums in North Wildwood until her retirement. She loved shopping for a good deal, handcrafting wreaths, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, and celebrating traditions like the Mummers Parade. Music was always a joy in her life—whether it was the Beatles, Beatlemania concerts down the shore, Riverdance, or whatever her grandchildren had on the radio, she listened with delight.
Above all, Joan’s happiest place was Anglesea. Each morning, coffee in hand, she would sit outside to watch the dolphins and soak in the beauty of the shore she loved so deeply.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her social nature, her lifelong friendships, and her unwavering love for her family.
Joan’s life was a gift, and her legacy of love and laughter will live on in every life she touched.
Family and friends are invited to Joan’s Life Celebration on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm and again on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 9:30-11:00am at St Charles Borromeo RC Church, 176 Stagecoach Rd, Sicklerville, NJ 08081. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am.
Interment at St Joseph’s Cemetery & Mausoleum, 240 Lower Landing Rd, Blackwood, NJ 08012.
