Joan Gaughan

Joan Kathleen (Ommert) Gaughan, departed this life on February 9, 2025 in Mansfield, Ohio. Born in Sandusky, Ohio in 1931 she was raised in Cleveland, Ohio attending Lourdes Academy and Ursuline College. In 1952 she married Peter “Pete” Gaughan and they had 3 children.

Being an only child, Joan was devoted to her family and became an avid volunteer at her children’s schools – Mansfield St. Peter’s, Parma Heights Nazareth Academy and Parma Padua Franciscan High School where she and Pete were founding members of the Parents Group.

Joan golfed weekly in the Ladies League at Little Apple Golf Course, was an avid Guardians fan (always HOPING this would be THE YEAR) and found peace and relaxation in her favorite pastime of reading (belonging to 3 book clubs) a “joy” she passed on to her children, grandchildren and now her great-granddaughters.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and “Lovey”, her loving husband Pete, and her youngest son Daniel.

She is survived by her children: Kathleen “Kate” and Peter (Terri); grandchildren Michael (Abby), Tekla (Zach); great-granddaughters Sylvie, Greta and Felicity; her sister-in-law Betty; a niece and nephews.

Joan will be remembered for her belief in the “Golden Rule”, the importance of family and friendships and the warmth of her SMILE.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Church on April 5, 2025 at 11:00am.  A private burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery, University of Notre Dame.
