Jimmy Looney
Jimmy Lee “Jim” Looney, 75 of Ostrander passed peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at his residence.
Born June 29, 1950 in Grundy, VA, one of six children to the late Clyde Burton & Nina (Nelson) Looney. Jim attended Buckeye Valley High School, while there he was active in Football and Track. He graduated from Buckeye Valley in 1968.
On Jim’s 18th birthday, Jim first met Brenda at the Delaware Lanes Bowling Alley. Jim said he knew on that day he was going to marry her. They married a couple of years later and started a family.
Jim attended night classes at Franklin University. He apprenticed at RANCO and received his tool and die certification. He worked as a tool and die maker for RANCO, Metatec and most recently Yachiyo. Jim retired after 45 plus years of service. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Chapter 376. He volunteered several years with the Buckeye Valley youth baseball and football programs and also the village of Ostrander youth baseball program.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his loving wife of 55 years Brenda; sons Eric (Laurie) and Adam (Ginny) Looney; grandchildren Magen, Maddy, Aidan and Tyler Looney; sisters Sue (Barry) Bowdre and Kathy Looney; sister-in-law Judy Looney; brother- in-law David Rinker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard “Dean” and David Looney, sister Linda Coulter and in laws Bob and Ragene Rinker.
When Jim wasn’t working or coaching, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was constantly tinkering in the garage and enjoyed riding motorcycles. Jim was particular about his grass, and those close to him knew there was a wrong way, and then there was “Jim’s” way. His greatest joy in life was his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids at all of their sporting events, music concerts and art programs. Jim had a wicked sense of humor and was very ornery. He was loving, a loyal friend and a straight shooter. He had a rough exterior with a soft interior.
Friends may call on the family Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015 from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm. Pastor Donnie Akers will officiate a funeral service celebrating the significance of Jim’s life at 12:00 Noon on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Snyder Funeral Center. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Ostrander. In honoring Jim, and the true sports fan that he was, the family encourages attendees to please wear one of Jim’s Favorite sports teams to honor him.
