Jesse “Jep” Ovida Smith, Jr.

April 21, 1945 – August 31, 2025

Jesse “Jep” Ovida Smith, Jr., 80, of Carrabelle, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born April 21, 1945, in Port St. Joe, Florida, Jep lived a life of service, dedication, and devotion. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and later retired as a captain with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Known for his steadfast commitment to his community, Jep was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest joy was found in the presence of his family, and he was always there to support and celebrate their lives and accomplishments.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Smith; children, Gina Smith, Sheila Millender, Jep Dewayne Smith (Tammie), Spence Massey (Olivia), Buck Smith, Kelson Smith, and Kylee Smith; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jep and Frankie Smith, and his sisters, Jeannie Brown and Judy Whitten.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Carrabelle, with Pastor Robert Murray and Pastor Wade Blevins officiating.

Jep will be remembered for his unwavering love, his service to others, and the legacy of family he leaves behind.
