Jasmik Sanassarian

Jasmik Tadjarian Sanassarian, born on September 5, 1933, in Tehran, Iran, was the eldest of four daughters born to Yerem and Maro Tadjarian. She grew up alongside her beloved sisters Nazik, Violet, and Lilik.

Jasmik earned a degree in English Literature from the University of Tehran in the 1950s, and subsequently worked as an assistant with the U.S. Army, where she met her future husband, Mirtad. In 1965, they immigrated to San Francisco with their daughter, Arlette.

A devoted member of the San Francisco Armenian community, Jasmik became an active volunteer at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church and its Saturday school. After the birth of her second daughter, Taline, she continued to give her time and energy generously over the years both to the community and especially to her children.

Jasmik’s decades-long contributions to the community were wide-ranging and deeply impactful. She volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary, supported the church’s weekly bingo nights, participated in the Armenian American Citizens League, and was a familiar face at the annual Bazaar and Food Festival—most often found managing the dessert table with her signature warmth and efficiency.

Her determination and resilience defined both her personal and professional life. She held various positions throughout her career, including working at the Iranian Consulate in San Francisco in the 1970s, as well as a successful San Francisco advertising agency, and later at the American Cancer Society. Yet, of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of raising her two daughters.

She is survived by her daughters, Arlette and Taline; her sister, Violet; her son-in-law, Michael; several nieces, nephews, and their families; and a grateful community enriched by her presence and service.
