James “Jim” Douglas

James “Jim” Douglas

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Frederick Douglas, a longtime resident of Chetwynd, British Columbia, on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the age of 95 years.

Jim was born on June 27, 1930, in Edam Saskatchewan, the second son of James and Elsa Douglas, joining big brother Jack.

As lots of young men from the prairies would, Jack and Jim headed west to the Peace area for work during the winters. Usually logging or gas and oil. Jim stayed permanently out west in 1956, the year he married Donna, his wife of nearly 55 years. They raised three children, Terry, Helen, and Kirk. Sadly, Donna passed away in 2011.

Jim worked for 25 years for the Dept of Highways before taking retirement in 1985. Then he decided to go into business for himself and purchased a used road grader. He enjoyed the work for many more years.

Jim was a huge sports fan. As a young man he loved to play ball and travelled to many small communities for ball tournaments. He helped or coached his kids in hockey, ball, skiing and curling. For many winters he would build an outdoor skating rink in the back yard.

Later in life, Jim and Donna took up golfing. Although they were late bloomers to the sport, they spent many hours in the little blue cart going round after round at Natural Spring Golf Resort.

After Donna passed away, Jim loved to make the drive to Dawson Creek to go to the casino. Not sure if he ever hit a big jack pot but he sure had fun trying!

Jim will be sadly missed by his three children, their families, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As well as lots of extended family and friends.

No formal service will be held.

For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Jim to the Chetwynd and District Hospital Foundation, Box 121, Chetwynd, BC, V0C 1J0.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
