James Florian De Ocampo, 38, of Glenview passed away on August 9th. James was preceded in death by his beloved parents Maria Lourdes, nee Ebreo, and Bezaleel De Ocampo. He is survived by his loving sister Mariebhez (Jeffrey) Troksa. James was a cherished nephew and cousin to many. James will also be missed by his Boston Terrier, Batman.
James earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northern Illinois University in May 2009. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a commitment to service, education, and mentorship. For over a decade, he worked as a Technology Support Specialist for Valley View School District, where left a lasting impression on students and staff alike.
Beyond his professional work, James was a dedicated leader in his church and community. He served as Program Director for the Northern Illinois Conference – CI from 2012 until his passing, and as Youth Advisor for Elston UMYF since 2011. He used his finance background as Treasurer for the Elston UMC Men’s Organization since 2010. Earlier in life, James was active in youth leadership roles, including serving as President of the Elston UMC Youth Group (2005–2006) and as a member of DECA (2004-2005) and the Financial Management Association at NIU (2007-2009).
James’s early accomplishments were a testament to his drive and dedication. He was named to the Dean’s List at NIU and ranked in the top three marketing students at his high school. He also achieved top placements in regional and state DECA competitions, a reflection of his sharp mind and competitive spirit.
James gave of himself fully and without expectation. He believed in service, in faith, and in the power of community. His legacy will live on in the many lives he impacted.
A visitation will be held from 1-7 PM on Sunday, August 17th with a service at 6 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 1104 Waukegan Rd., Glenview IL 60025 (Parking is in the rear of the building with additional parking available at Heinen’s Grocery Store directly south of the funeral home). Family and friends will meet on Monday, August 18th at Central United Methodist Church 8237 Kenton Ave. Skokie, IL 60076 for a visitation from 9 AM until time of funeral service at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery. For info 847-901-4012
