James Douglas Cashman, age 76 of Clarence, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24 2025, while at his lake home in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 29, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence with Pastor Karmen Jamison officiating. Jim was born November 26, 1948 to Douglas and Alta Cashman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Linda Benhart on June 3, 1972 in Oxford Junction.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda; son Jamie of West Des Moines; daughters Jennie (Tom) Jensen and Jodie (Troy) Regennitter of Clarence; grandchildren Caitlin, Conner, and Caylee Jensen; and dogs that he loved dearly Raelyne and Brinleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Julianne.
Jim was a man of many hats and even more heart. A lifelong farmer and former dedicated schoolteacher at Maquoketa and North Cedar, he instilled the values of hard work, integrity, and education in everyone he met. Whether in the classroom or the fields, Jim found purpose in helping others grow.
Jim was a proud supporter of Iowa State University and a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. He found joy in the simple things: fishing, camping under the stars, and spending hours in his workshop creating beautiful pieces from wood that told stories of their own or fixing anything that needed fixed.
More than anything, Jim cherished his family. He was a proud and enthusiastic grandpa, following his grandkids from ball fields or volleyball courts to barns as they played sports and showed cattle.
Jim never met a stranger. With a warm smile, a firm handshake, and a good story, he made friends everywhere he went. He loved people deeply and showed it through countless small acts of kindness that left lasting impressions.
