Heat Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday with ‘unusual’ nighttime highs, cooler temps by weekend

According to the National Weather Service, a heat advisory will remain in effect for portions of northern Nevada and northeastern California through 9 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures in valleys and basins expected to reach between 97 and 104 degrees.

Overnight lows will remain unusually warm, ranging from 65 to 70 degrees, creating widespread moderate to locally major heat risk across the region.

The advisory covers Lassen, Eastern Plumas, Eastern Sierra and Surprise Valley in California, as well as Northern Washoe County, the Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake, the Reno-Carson City-Minden area, and Mineral and Southern Lyon counties in Nevada.

Forecasters say the hottest conditions will hit Tuesday afternoon in lower valleys and basins, while areas above 4,500 feet in California’s Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra counties and along foothill slopes outside the valleys will see some relief.

The weather service warns that heat-related illnesses will be more likely, particularly for people outdoors for extended periods, in poorly cooled indoor spaces, or who are sensitive to high temperatures.

However, we’ll see some relief as the week continues on, with the heat beginning to dip by Friday with a high of 88 and a low of 50, and will further cool into the low to mid 80s by the beginning of next week.
