Harold Grant Ellis, age 65, of Weatherby, Missouri, was born December 10, 1959, the son of Norman Lloyd and Roberta Lucille (Jones) Ellis in King City, Missouri, and passed away May 24, 2025, in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Harold was a lifelong resident of Dekalb County where he made a point to know and help anyone who needed it. He attended elementary school in Weatherby and Fairport, then attended Maysville High School. where he was a member of the wrestling team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and many other outdoor activities. As a teenager he worked for Brock Milling driving a feed truck. He then served his community for 27 years working for MoDoT maintaining roads as well as served as a board member for Dallas Township for more than 20 years.
June 29, 1979 he married his childhood sweetheart, Beth Ann Barnes, and in 1983 he purchased a farm without his wife’s permission and began farming (on the side). Together they built it into a full-time occupation where they raised four children, Jeremy Ellis (Vickey), Jennifer (Shawn) Meek, Joanna (Jeff) Stretch, Justin (Brandi) Ellis, and 12 grandchildren he adored, Katrisha, Echo, Lincoln, Emma, Kolby, Kaleb, Kasey, Kyler, Elisa, Kelsa, Colt, Lane, and one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Pollack.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman V and Irene Ellis and Earl and Mary Jones; stepmother, Christine Ellis; stepfather, William Schneider; father-in-law, Leo Barnes; brother, Cleo Ellis; stepbrother, Jerry Schneider; and stepsister, Laynette Schneider.
He is survived by his wife, Beth; mother Roberta Schneider; father, Lloyd Ellis, mother-in-law, Glenda Barnes; sister Shirley (Rick) Catlett; brothers, Ted (Gala) Ellis and Roger Ellis (Donna); stepbrothers, Dirk (Pam) Protzman and Eric (Jennifer) Protzman; stepsister, Desa (Luis) Rand; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Alicia) Barnes and Daniel (Chrissy) Barnes; 4 children, 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; 20 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was a proud family man!
Family will receive friends from 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Turner Family Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Turner Family Funeral Home, with burial immediately following at Ellis Family Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Maysville Senior Center.
