Harold Eugene Charlton Sr., 94, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 8:51 AM, Monday, June 23, 2025, at his home.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal, MO.

Friends and Family are invited to Harold’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Harold was born February 4, 1931, in Hannibal, MO to Roscoe Ira Charlton and Mable Lena McClain Charlton.

He was married to Norma Jean Walls. She preceded him in death in 1987. He later married Betty Lou Felter on February 4, 1988 in Hannibal, MO. She survives.

Other survivors include his four children, Harold Eugene Charlton Jr, Vickie Rickey (Dennis), Peggy Hardy, and Danny Patterson (Suzie); one daughter-in-law, Margi Charlton; eight grandhildren; twelve great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jean Charlton; son, Robert Charlton; sister, Nellie Mayfield; and two brothers, Roscoe Jr., and Fred Charlton.

Harold started Charlton Lumber and Pallet in 1970 where he was the owner and operator of the sawmill. He retired in 1997 and started logging part time.

An avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Harold rarely missed a day to cheer them on. Harold’s adventurous spirit was evident by his love of camping. He enjoyed traveling the country in his RV, exploring national parks, hidden gems, and everything in between. Each journey was an adventure, each destination a new chapter in the rich story of his life. One of Harold’s favorite destinations was Colorado where he got to elk hunt and take in the beauty of the mountains. When not outdoors, Harold could often be found watching a classic western shows, especially Gunsmoke and Walker Texas Ranger. Harold’s character was the bedrock upon which he built his life. Known as an all-around nice and honest person, he treated everyone with respect and generosity. Above all, Harold treasured his family and every moment they spent together.

Pallbearers will be Robert Miller, Zach Hardy, Sean Charlton, Corey Patterson, Earl Karr, and Dennis Reeves.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
