Dr. H.L. Brammell, lovingly known as Hank, passed away in 2025 at the age of 90. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1935, Hank was the son of Naomi Helen Metzger and Paris Roy Brammell. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings, John Leland Brammell and Naomi Helene Willis.

A devoted father, husband, physician, and visionary, Hank dedicated his life to the service of others through medicine. As a doctor, researcher, and innovator in the field of cardiology, he was known for his commitment to challenging convention and advancing the science of heart health. His contributions left a lasting mark on the medical community and the countless lives he touched.

It was during his tenure at the University of Colorado Medical Center that Hank met the love of his life, Carole Ann Swinton. They married in February 1979 and spent the next 46 years side by side—partners in love, art, and a life filled with joyful gatherings and shared passions.

Hank was preceded in death by his son, Brandon Lee Brammell, and is survived by three children who carry forward his legacy: Sara Ruth Brammell Shumway, Prescott Roy Brammell, and Jonathon Lee Brammell.

He will be remembered always for his brilliant mind, his compassionate heart, and the profound love he gave to his family, friends, and patients.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Colorado Heart Association in honor of Hank’s lifelong dedication to heart health: https://www.heart.org/en/why-give https://www.heart.org/en/why-give
