Gregory Mathieu
- May 19, 2025

Gregory Phillippe Mathieu was born on April 7, 1982, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Sansaricq Mathieu and Solange Joseph. As a young boy, Gregory moved to the United States to join his father and stepmother, Claudia Mathieu, and was raised in New Haven, Connecticut. From a young age, Gregory displayed a deep love for sports-particularly soccer and basketball-and found joy in music, teaching himself to play the guitar.
He attended Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, where his strong character and sense of responsibility began to shine. After graduation, Gregory answered a higher call to serve and enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. His service took him across the U.S. and overseas, including deployment to Afghanistan. Over the course of his distinguished military career, Gregory was awarded numerous honors for his bravery and dedication, including the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. These commendations reflect the extraordinary courage, discipline, and commitment he brought to his service.
Following his time in uniform, Gregory pursued professional certifications in supply chain management, logistics, and transportation. He continued to serve his community through civilian roles at Yale New Haven Hospital, FedEx, Werner Enterprises and other organizations where his discipline and work ethic left a lasting impact.
Above all, Gregory was a devoted father to his two beloved daughters, Hailey and Ella Mathieu, born of his previous marriage to Biancha Mathieu. He cherished fatherhood and remained a constant presence in their lives, offering love, guidance, and support.
Gregory is survived by his daughters, Hailey and Ella; his father, Sansaricq Mathieu; mother, Solange Joseph; stepmother, Claudia Mathieu; and brother, Pinel Phyrrus. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members, friends, and comrades-in-arms who will forever remember his strength, warmth, and unwavering spirit.
Gregory Phillippe Mathieu lived a life of purpose, pride, and service. He is deeply loved and will be remembered always.
