Gregory Paul Hallick-Holutiak passed away on August 13th at the age of 72. He is preceded in death by his parents Reverend Protopresbyter Stephen and Panimatka Hope Hallick-Holutiak. He will be forever cherished by survivors who include his loving wife, Gina Hallick, brother Stephen (Ann) Hallick, sisters Dareen (late Charles) Swartzlander and Donna (Edward) Bergey as well as many nieces and nephews, church members and a host of other relatives and friends.
Greg was highly regarded by all those he touched in his personal, professional and spiritual life. He took a leadership role in the Ukrainian Orthodox church in California serving as choir director for more than five decades first in Los Angeles at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox church and later in San Francisco at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox church. He was a pioneer promoting Ukrainian music through his visionary approach as exemplified by his many compositions and arrangements, some of which were performed in several cities by the Kobzar Choir as well as the Ukrainian National choir of California featuring accomplished soloists including opera stars and Broadway actors. After the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces in 2022, Greg helped rally compassionate Americans to support Ukraine through various benefit concerts and public forums. His presence will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox church in San Francisco on August 23rd at 10:00 am.
Following that, there will be a memorial service and internment at St. Andrews Ukrainian Orthodox National Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey on September 6th at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Ukrainian History and Education Center in Somerset, New Jersey www.ukrhec.org or the Ukrainian Catholic University at: https://ucufoundation.org/donate/
