Grace Marie Metcalf Dalton

With hearts full of gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Grace Marie Metcalf Dalton at the age of 88, on September 27, 2025, in Henderson County, North Carolina. Born on August 11, 1937, in the scenic embrace of Yancey County, North Carolina, Grace spent her life weaving a tapestry of love, kindness, and enduring faith as a resident of Henderson County for 78 years.

As a cherished member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, her spiritual devotion deeply inspired those around her. Grace’s professional life was marked by dedication, culminating in her retirement from Van Wingerdens International. Yet, it was in her personal life where she truly shone, finding immense joy and purpose in nurturing her relationships.

Her family was her greatest treasure. She cherished every moment spent with her granddaughters and great-granddaughter, Brinley Garren, forming special bonds and creating lasting memories that will be held in the hearts of her loved ones forever. Her passion for reading transported her to worlds beyond imagination, and her friendships enriched her days. At Hendersonville Health and Rehab, she was embraced as family who treated her with gentle, loving care.

Grace was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clyde and Mary Metcalf; her devoted husband of 59 years, Billy N. Dalton, who was the “love of her life”; her loving son, Joey D. Dalton; and two brothers and two sisters. In life, as in heaven, her legacy continues through her beloved daughter, Debbie Miller, and her husband, Dennis; her grandsons, Jonathan (Grace) Miller and Nicholas (Kaley) Miller; her daughter-in-law, Ellaree Dalton; and her granddaughters, Ashley (Kevin) Garren and Megan Dalton. Her three great-grandchildren will carry forward her spirit and love.

A private graveside service will be held at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, where Grace will be laid to rest beside those she loved so dearly.

As we remember Grace, let us be inspired by her unwavering faith, her boundless love for family, and her gentle spirit. Though she has left this earth, her legacy lives on in the hearts and lives she touched. Shuler Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse.
