Gerald Charles Fennell
December 27, 1935 – May 27, 2025
Gerry, a fifth generation San Franciscan, was born on 12/27/34, and raised in Noe Valley. He was a lifelong member of St. Philip’s parish, graduating from Riordan High School in 1953.
Gerry served 3 years in the US Army, and was stationed at the Pentagon as a cryptographer. He then had a long, and distinguished 30 year career in the San Francisco Fire Department, retiring with a rank of Captain in 1995. Following retirement, Gerry continued his lifelong loves of boating, fishing, and all things mechanical.
Gerry was a loving and devoted son, brother and uncle, who lived fiercely independently until the end. He was preceded in death by parents Gerald and Henrietta, and siblings Joan and Robert. He is survived by his loving sister Kathy, sister-in-law Joanne, and many devoted nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Kaiser San Francisco Hospice program, especially case manager Molly O’Brien RN, for her care and compassion over the past 23 months.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11 at 10 AM at St. Philip’s church, 725 Diamond St., San Francisco. Donations may be made to Kaiser Hospice SFO, 4131 Geary Blvd., Room 404, San Francisco, CA 94118.
