Gary passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at McLaren Bay Region, he was 74. He was born October 12, 1950, in Bay City to the late Omer and Jane (Thomas) Shorkey. Gary graduated from T.L. Handy High School and went to work for the City of Bay City, where he was a supervisor in the sewer department for over 30 years. Gary was a simple man and like the simple things in life, visiting Mackinaw City, spending time with his friends and his dog Alex.

Gary is survived by his partner of over 11 years Mark Berndt and special friend Debra Bergey. Gary was predeceased by his brother Mark Shorkey.

Friends will gather at Squires Funeral Home, 211 N. Henry Street, Bay City, MI 48706 on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM.
