Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson, 73, of Princeton, passed away at his home on January 25, 2025.

Born in New York City, NY, Gary has been a resident of Princeton for the last 10 years.

Gary obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, manga cum laude, from Fordham University. His life long interest in religion led him to enter the work world as a teacher at Xaverian High School in Staten Island, New York. Subsequently, he obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University. After obtaining his law degree, he became an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in New York City. Upon leaving the District Attorney’s office, he specialized in labor law and worked for the New York State Public Employment Relations Board. He subsequently held the position of Director of the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations for New York State for Governors Mario Cuomo, Pataki, Spitzer, Patterson and Andrew Cuomo. His final position, prior to retiring, was as Counsel to the President of Medgar Evers College, CUNY.

He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Anne Gutmann; son, Jared M. Johnson; brother Robert Johnson, sister-in-law Dianne Renwick and nephews Laurence, Julien, Justin and Graham Johnson; brother-in-law James Gutmann and his son Timothy Gutmann and daughter Adriane Gutmann; brother-in-law Stephen Gutmann (Sheila) and their sons Daniel Gutmann (Maggie) and Paul Gutmann. Gary is also survived by his extended family and many dear friends.

Funeral Services for Gary will be held at The Jewish Center, 435 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ 08540 on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 10:00 am.
