Garlyn Ruth Stevens

June 6, 1942 – May 19, 2025

Garlyn Ruth Stevens passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025 just three weeks shy of her 83rd birthday at Bel Aire Assisted Living Memory Unit, American Fork Utah. She was born on June 6, 1942 to Perry Chester Dickinson and Elisabeth Lillian Hancock Dickinson in Corning California.

She was the fourth daughter of six children, four girls and two boys, girls being the oldest and the two boys lagged behind. She grew up in a small town in northern California in the city of Proberta near the Sacramento River. She went to Gerber Elementary School and graduated from Red Bluff High School (the home of the Red Bluff Spartans). After high school she moved from the small country town to the big city of Los Angeles, California.

Garlyn was extremely smart, she worked as an accountant with Motorola, was a Real Estate Agent, Nurse’s Aide, and a License Vocational Nurse specialized in Home Health Care where her passion was taking care of young patients which she did until retirement at age 70 years old.

She was living in Los Angeles, when her father passed away. She then returned to Proberta to helped her mother and two brothers, Ron and Dennis move to an apartment in Brentwood, California where they all lived together.

Garlyn lost touch with the family for about twenty years and when she reconnected with the family she had a house in Lake Elsinore California. It was a beautiful home in the hills with a swimming pool. It was at that time she was showing signs of difficulty so she moved to Orem Utah with her brother Dennis and sold her home. After her home sold, she moved to Thornberry Senior Apartments in Pleasant Grove Utah until it was time to move her to Bel Aire Assisted Living in Orem Utah where she lived for three years. Then when this location was closed, she moved to their American Fork facility in the memory unit, until she passed eight months later.

Garlyn loved to drive and see the world, the beach, state parks, Los Angeles Zoo, amusement parks and her family. She loved animals, horses, dogs and specially her cat Jasper who had to have been very special because we found a special box with his ashes in it while cleaning her house in California. She loved paintings and has many of them. When it was time, she had to give up driving and sell her precious car a “RED Pontiac Sunfire”, was extremely difficult for her to lose this freedom. She was very active in politics and her favorite commentator was “Rush Limbaugh” and to watch or listen to “Fox News”. One of her favorite singers was Elvis Presley.

She loved her family and really enjoyed receiving Christmas cards, letters, baptism and marriage announcements along with the pictures.

She loved her nieces and nephews and wanted so much to get to know them because she had lost so much time. By the time she reconnected with the family her memory was giving her difficulty to remember their names and where in the family they belonged, this was very frustrating. In the program under “Special Memory of Our Aunt Garlyn” are the memories from her nieces and nephews.

While living in Brentwood, Garlyn served as Stake Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She married Robert (Bob) Stevens on November 9, 1974 Los Angeles, California then a short time later they divorced.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Perry Chester Dickinson and Elisabeth Lillian Hancock Dickinson, sister Freda Ebert, nephew Ricky Ebert, brother-in-law Seth Price.

She is survived by her sisters; Ludene Price, Phyllis Crawford (Marion), brothers; Ron Dickinson (Mary Ann), Dennis Dickinson (Gail) and brother-in-law Ed Ebert.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bel Aire Assisted Living and the Memory Unit for their kindness and care, Bel Vista Hospice for their skill, kindness and care and Walker Sanderson Funeral Home for their support and direction to celebrate our sister and aunt.

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 31, 2025 at 11:00 am at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home 646 East 800 North Orem, Utah. Interment and Dedication of the grave will follow at Orem Cemetery 1520 North 800 East Orem, Utah.
