It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Elizabeth Langford, affectionately known as “Grammy Gail.” She passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the age of 86, with family by her side.
Gail was born in Ottawa, ON, on June 24, 1939. A cherished resident of Calgary, AB, Gail was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, and beloved baby sister to Wensil.
Gail was a remarkable athlete whose talents shone brightly in every endeavour she pursued. Her passion for skating was legendary, and her natural athleticism extended to bowling and many other activities.
Those who knew her often marveled at her ability to create with her hands, whether it was whipping up a beautiful dress, sewing curtains, or crafting imaginative costumes for her grandchildren. Each creation was a labour of love, reflecting her generous spirit and dedication to family.
An adventurous soul, Gail embraced life with enthusiasm, traveling across continents and always finding joy in new experiences. Her vibrant personality and ability to connect with others made her a beloved member of every community she joined. One of her most memorable roles was at Lens Crafters in Calgary, AB, where her retirement party was a testament to the love and respect she garnered from colleagues and friends alike.
Gail’s passions extended beyond her professional life; she found joy in gardening, thrifting, and refinishing furniture, always contributing to the family dynamic with her creativity and warmth. As a grandmother, she was a keeper of secrets, earning the trust of her grandsons, Dylan and Damon, who knew they could confide in her without fear. The laughter and love she shared with them will forever be cherished.
She is survived by her sister, Wensil Kearns, of Ottawa, ON; her son, Phil Langford, and daughter, Jacqueline Langford-Misener, both of Calgary, AB; her grandsons, Dylan Langford (and his girlfriend, Calysta Murphy, of Carstairs, AB) and Damon Misener, all of Calgary, AB; as well as many nieces and nephews who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Wesley Scharf, of Ottawa, ON.
A Private Funeral Service for family and close friends will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
Gail Elizabeth Langford will be deeply missed, but her vibrant spirit and the countless memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
