It is with great sadness that the family of Gail Edward Bellinger announces his peaceful passing at the age of 82 on July 14, 2025, at North Haven Care Home in Phoenix, Arizona after a brave battle with brain cancer. Gail was born in December 1942 at Mt. Pleasant Michigan, to Donald Dewey and Lois Fern Bellinger. The family moved to Phoenix in 1951 where Gail attended and graduated from Sunnyslope High School in 1960. After two years at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, he joined the U.S. Navy where he spent the next 9 ½ years as a Linguist. He was stationed in the Philippines, Australia, Okinawa and Guam. While stationed in Darwin, Australia Gail met and married his wife of 57 years, Sheila May Bellinger a native of England.
After their return to Arizona, Gail joined the family awning business. He later worked as a Hotel Night Auditor, worked for a Tree Company and finally for 15 years driving his much-loved school children as a School Bus Diver. Gail enjoyed working and pottering outside as much as he could, taking care of his property, and tinkering with his beloved Jeep pick-up truck. He enjoyed learning how to play the guitar, and while in the Navy loved calling and dancing at square dance clubs. His biggest accomplishment was building a two-story log cabin in the small community of Beaver Valley, East of Payson, AZ with his son Aaron, where they faced many obstacles and challenges but managed to have much fun meeting and conquering them.
Gail is pre-deceased by his parents, Donald and Lois, and is survived by wis wife, Sheila Haisman Bellinger, his son Aaron Bellinger and wife Tanya, and his two brothers Dwight (Gloria) and Douglas (Anita), and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic.
Family, friends and others are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Wednesday July 30th at 10am at Hansen Mortuary Chapel on 8314 N. 7th Street Phoenix, AZ 85020 (between Dunlap and Northern Ave.). All are invited to come and reminisce and honor Gail’s life, and following the service will be a small reception. A burial ceremony will be held at the National Cemetery of Arizona at 2pm. Those who would like to are encouraged to share a special memory or a practical joke he or she played on Gail and vice versa, during their working hours together. Gail was a loving, caring and loyal Husband, Father, Uncle and Friend. He will be greatly missed by many.
