Fundraiser sponsors, donations sought for local mom of three diagnosed with rare blood cancer

A fundraiser is being planned for November 15 for a local mother of three young girls who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of blood cancer, and Pioneer Real Estate Center is calling for community sponsors and donations to help.

Juanita Meza has worked for Pioneer Real Estate Center for many years.  She has helped hundreds and hundreds of people from South Lake Tahoe, Minden, Gardnerville and Carson City and in the greater Northern Nevada area. 

Juanita is a legal assistant and a certified document preparer who has provided everything from helping people fill out forms, translating documents, preparing taxes and helping seniors apply for Medicare and Social Security.

She was born in South Lake Tahoe and moved to Gardnerville in 2014.  Juanita has three beautiful daughters: Mia, Valentina and Eliza ages 15, 7 and 4 who are regular visitors and helpers in our office.

This bright and giving woman was diagnosed with Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), a fast-growing type of blood cancer almost three weeks ago. 

Fewer than 5,000 people in the US have this rare blood cancer.  When it was first discovered in 1957 the survival time from diagnosis to death was a week. 

Today, with modern treatments it has an 80-90% survival rate.  One of her first symptoms was bleeding in the brain.  They have performed surgery for the brain bleeds, but the severe headaches remain.  The treatment is rough, she will be in the hospital a minimum of two months getting chemotherapy daily and regular blood transfusions and transfusions of platelets to beat this cancer.

While Juanita is blessed to have a close family here to help, she is the sole support for her girls.  Her husband is in Mexico and was denied a humanitarian parole to come to the USA and see his ill wife and help with their girls. 

This is where the community comes in. 

At Pioneer Real Estate Center we have provided support to the Northern Nevada community for over 35 yrs.  We now ask for the community to come together and help one of our staff who so desperately needs your support. 

We are holding a Kermes (fundraiser) on November 15 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. for Juanita and her girls. 

We need sponsors, volunteers, donations of food or prizes to raffle.
