Free tribute concert honoring Capital City Community Band founder Richard Doede
- May 31, 2025

The Capital City Community Band is pleased to present a concert on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Carson City Legislative Mall Amphitheater in tribute to its founding director, Richard Doede.
Richard passed away on April 11, 2025. He founded the Community Band in 1978 as a venue for adults who wanted to continue playing their instruments. Richard passed the baton to Nick Jacques in 2018 and the band continues to thrive today.
Richard was also instrumental in the band program in the Carson City School District from 1974 to 1999. Many prominent musicians in this area credit him with their start in music.
He was a member of the Nevada Day Committee as Band Chairman for several years after retirement. He and his wife, Carol, also operated Vivo Band Instrument Repair for 25 years.
The tribute concert will feature some of Richard’s favorite artists, composers, and pieces such as Gershwin, Sousa, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and several patriotic numbers. His favorite song, My Way, will be performed by Jen Simkins.
The tribute band consists of present and past members who want to express their respect and appreciation for the legacy of Mr. Doede. The concert is free to all and is a great family event for all ages. Bring your own chair or blanket and enjoy a fun afternoon of great music.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 23 at 2 p.m. in the Carson Plaza Hotel Events Center, 211 E. 9th St. Everyone is welcome to attend.
