Frederick “Fred” Allen Link, 49, of Birmingham, MI, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Fred was educated in Birmingham public schools and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He went on to earn his BA from the University of Michigan, where he covered sports for the Michigan Daily. He then received his law degree from Harvard Law School, and a PhD in Economics from MIT. His career began at a law firm in London and continued in Zurich, Switzerland where he worked in law and finance.
Fred was a massive fan of Detroit sports and regaled his daughter, Jayden, with stories of Steve Yzerman’s Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. He had a great fondness for the Upper Peninsula, enjoyed cross-country skiing and loved sledding in the Swiss Alpine town of Bergün. He adored his cat, Casey.
Fred was warm and generous, with a razor-sharp intellect and a keen sense of humor. He was also a trusted advisor whose rare ability to solve difficult economic and legal problems earned him the respect of colleagues and friends around the world.
He is survived by his mother, Cynthia, of Birmingham, and his daughter, Helena (Jayden), of New York City. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Charles, and his father, Robert. Fred was blessed with many special people in his life including Jayden’s mother, Michelle, Anna, Amy, Alexis, Tera, Chris, Bill, Dave, Daryn, Joe, Kevin, his cousins Suzy, Barb, Scott and his ever-present world traveling, stuffed Canadian moose – Yukon.
A private family ceremony will be held to celebrate his life. Memorial donations in his honor may be made to Michigan Humane and Scouting America.
