Frederick J. Lewis, 93, of Taberg, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Bethany Gardens. Born in Rome on September 24, 1932, he was a son of the late Frederick H. and Ethel (Hawkins) Lewis. He was a 1950 graduate of Camden High School. On October 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Virginia Avery. She passed away January 28, 1983. In 1999 he married Heloise Pulverenti. She passed away November 21, 2020.
Fred owned and operated Lewis Meat Market for over 30 years, first in Rome before moving the operation to Taberg. In retirement, he went to work for the Camden Central School District where he was a bus driver.
Fred was a member of the Lee Community Church, Baron-Steuben Lodge #264, Son’s of the American Legion Post #1309, and served the Taberg Fire Department for over 70 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and playing cards.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. (Earl) Pattington and Sharon A. (Michael) Hawkes; two sons and daughters-in-law, John F. (Brenda) Lewis and James W. (Kelly) Lewis; eight grandchildren, Marcus J. and Andrea E. Pattington, Elizabeth A. Hawkes, Jessup A. (Kylee) and Dustin J. Lewis, Lyle A. Fuller IV (Cassandra), Devin Fuller (Magaly), and Hunter J.(Brianah) Lewis; and four great-grandchildren, Avery D., Kayden P., Everly C., and Emerick J. Lewis. He was predeceased by a son, Frederick J. Lewis, Jr.; and a grandson, Christopher M. Hawkes.
Fred’s family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to his home caregivers and the staff at Bethany Gardens for their wonderful care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440, on Friday, October 31st from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery.
