Frank W Heijmans, a cherished soul, and master craftsman, completed his magnificent journey on Earth on September 26, 2025. Born in the village of Heerle Wouw, Holland, on May 10, 1937, Frank’s life was filled with love, laughter, and strong family ties. He passed away in the town Glenburnie, ON, in the house that he built over 65 years ago, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and the sweet resonance of his laughter that echoed through the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Frank’s life was a testament to the power of positivity melded with purpose. For 27 years, he served as a carpenter for the city of Kingston, wielding his hammer and chisel not merely as tools, but as instruments of creation, shaping more than just wood—shaping the community. His work was his canvas, and the structures he crafted still stand as silent yet eloquent witnesses to his skill and unwavering commitment to his craft. His hands, roughened by labor, were a symbol of his dedication to the city he loved and served with pride.
But Frank was more than his work; he was the heart of his family. His beloved wife Louisa (of 66 years) was his steadfast partner in life’s dance, matching his steps in every way. Together, they nurtured a home filled with love, a safe haven for their daughters, Karen McCarthy (Dave) and Anita Murphy (Matthew). Frank’s eyes would sparkle with unspoken stories as he watched his grandchildren, Danielle Desgagnes (Connor), Shannon McCarthy, and Mairin Murphy, grow and explore the world, each carrying a spark of their granddad’s spirit. The twinkle in his eye grew even brighter with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas, who will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather’s love and laughter.
An expert woodworker, Frank’s hands crafted wonders that were not only a feast for the eyes but also each piece told a story, a narrative of the hours he poured into perfecting his art. His work was a bridge between generations, a legacy of craftsmanship that will stand the test of time. Frank’s jovial nature was infectious; he appreciated a good laugh and had an uncanny ability to uplift spirits, turning even the simplest moments into memories. His laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those around him, a reminder that joy can be found in the smallest of things.
Frank’s life reminds us all to savor each moment, to find joy in the work of our hands, and to cherish the bonds of family. His was a life well-lived, to know him truly was to love him. As we remember Frank, let us celebrate the beauty of a life that touched so many, a life that was filled with family, love, and unwavering strength. Frank was a man who built more than just structures—he built a legacy of love—and will be profoundly missed and eternally celebrated.
A Celebration of Frank’s life will take place on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 at the James Reid Funeral Home Celebration Centre (please enter through the rear doors) 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, Ontario starting at 1:00pm until 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a donation are encouraged to do so to the Canadian Cancer Society.
