Frances Simants
Frances Catherine Simants, 89, of Sterling passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025 in Sterling. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:45 am on Thursday, August 14th at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Francy was born on October 20, 1935 in Gary, Indiana to Michael and Mary (Maza) Czapla. She attended elementary school at St. Joseph School in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated from Biship Noll High School in Hammond, IN. She worked many years as a Nurses Aide and was a private Aide for Joy Post. Her last years working were in the Food Service department at Sterling Regional Medcenter.
Francy married Charles Simants on November 27, 1954 in East Chicago, IN and in 1959, they moved to Sterling. They were married for 52 years. Francy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Circle, American Legion Post 20, and the Senior Citizen Club. She said her only hobby was sharing love to the world.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Legacy for their loving care; along with Norma Barton and Janette Lininger for their special care. Lydia Fitzsimmons, Kathy Kaufman, and Mary McClanahan for their special visits.
Francy is survived by her son Fred (Rhonda) Simants of Sterling; daughters Dianne Hays of Carthage, NY, Linda (Kent) White of Fairfield Bay, AR, Della (Chris) Helling of Escondido, CA, and Judy Butcher of Chehalis, WA; sister Annie Simants of Portage, IN; grandchildren Cassandra Adler of Las Vegas, Nick (Kori) Simants of Sterling, Erin (Justin) Wright of Portland, Adrienne (Willie) Watson of Carthage, Josh (Amanda) Hays of Artesia, NM, Jeremy Simants of Vancouver, WA, Amanda (Brian) Ray of South Korea, Paul Garrett of Woodlands, TX, Ginny White of Sacramento, CA, Jenny Becker of Denver, Sarah Punshon of Santee, CA, Amy (TJ) Thomas of Santee, CA, Alisha (Ron) Russel of LaVergne, TN; great-grandchildren Amelia Wright, Jaxon and Deveraux Watson, Logan Becker, Ryker and Bryson Hays, Max and Brendan Baird, Hailey and Taylor Simants, Sierra Green, Leilani Smith, Taliyah Smith, Kameron Thomas, Brandon Russel, LaVonne Russel, October Russel, Dayshaun and Ashton Ray.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; parents Michael and Mary; brothers Martin and Joseph Drodzynski; sister Agnes Czapla; in-laws Ernest and Alma Simants; son-in-law Gerald Butcher; grandson-in-law Sidney Adler.
