5:12AM: Here is the latest from Carson City Fire Department. As of 5 a.m. Saturday the C Hill Fire is around 80 acres in size and is around 10 percent contained.

“We will have more resources today to improve fire lines, hotspots and prepare for any wind we will have during the day,” said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Mason.

Fire behavior as of 5 a.m. was minimal due to the temperatures and low wind, he said, adding that as soon as the sun comes up, along with the winds, he expects the fire to pick back up. No structures or infrastructure has been damaged, he said.

“We had significant fire behavior overnight due to dry conditions and fuels,” he said.

Along with the Carson City Fire Department, assisting agencies are East Fork Fire, BLM and the Forest Service.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE 3AM: Heavy flames in the C-Hill fire area on the west side of Carson City appear to be lessening as firefighters work multiple flanks on the fire, hitting hotspots. Wind speeds are around 5 mph with gusts up to 8 mph. Evacuations are voluntary and not mandatory at this point.

UPDATE 2:32AM: The Perimeter Evacuation Map can be found here. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said there are no evacuation orders at this time but there is a precautionary “be prepared to evacuate” watch.

UPDATE 1:45 AM: According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the fire started in the canyon behind Greenhouse Garden Center and burned up the face of C-Hill. The fire is burning in steep, rough terrain. There have been no evacuation orders, however the streets of Crain and Terrace are on evacuation watch, as well as street arteries in the area. Thus far, no structures have burned and no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters are hitting multiple flanks on the fire, with active flames in some areas. A Carson Now reader asked if the church on Gay Drive is affected. According to Sheriff Furlong, the church is not threatened at this time.
