In loving memory of Felipe A. Awa, 75, of San Diego, CA, who passed away on June 3, 2025. He was born in Bauan Batangas, Philippines, on September 20, 1949, to Eduviges Awa. In 1974, he met Romana Quiambao in Olangapo City, Philippines, and married that same year. He was known to friends and family as Ipe.
He is survived by the following family members:
· Romana Q. Awa ((wife of 50 years)
· Rosemarie Awa, Ernie and Liberty Awa, Rowena and Jake Accardo (children and spouses)
· Nima MacKay and Ariela Accardo (grandchildren)
· Jinky, John, Pia and Aila Mayormente (beloved family)
In 1972, Felipe joined the United States Navy. He served his country for 22 years and retired as a Hospital Corpsman Chief Petty Officer in 1994. During his military career, he received:
· Good Conduct Award (4)
· National Defense Service Medal (2)
· Humanitarian Service Medal (2)
· Battle “E” Ribbon
· Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3)
· Navy Achievement Medal
Felipe was an outgoing person who often left an impression on those he interacted with. He was a member of Cursillo, Freemasonry, and Batangas Association. He loved watching football, watching martial arts and action movies, The Filipino Channel, and local news. He also enjoyed playing cards, mahjong, and bingo, as well as reading books, and traveled frequently to the Philippines.
By the grace of God, Felipe A. Awa lived 75 years despite many health challenges. We are grateful for his life and his memory lives on in our hearts.
