Evelyn Bernadette Neufeld

May 1, 1947 – July 25, 2025

Evelyn was born May 4, 1947 in Macklin, Saskatchewan to Edmund and Genevieve Sieben. She grew up on several farms in the Cactus Lake area about 10 miles south east of Macklin. Along with the younger sister the family moved into Macklin when she was twelve years old where she completed her grade 10. She soon started work at local hospital as a nurse’s aide; this led to a lifetime of work in health care in Saskatchewan and Alberta in seven hospital and 2 nursing homes. Evelyn married Stan Neufeld October 5, 1966, son Brent was born in 1970. As a family we lived in Swift Current, Camrose, New Norway, Rocky Mountain House, and Drayton Valley since 1980. Evelyn was a busy lady so between hospital jobs she had time to work at other paces, the hardware store, a drug store, the post office, some babysitting just to fill her time.

After work at the Drayton Valley Hospital became too stressful, she started sewing fancy little girls’ dresses and selling them at the local farmer’s market. We don’t know if the sales were good or if it was just a way to meet new people. A stranger was just a friend Evelyn had never met before. When her health began to fail almost 5 years ago, she had to give up many things she enjoyed, most of all the long walks and “going somewhere”. “It’s a nice evening, lets go for a drive” about 15 minutes later, “I forgot my money at home but let’s stop for soft ice cream.”

Heard a story about her and another unnamed nurse dressing a mannequin in some old lady’s clothes who was a patient at the time and set “her” in a chair at the far end of the hall all slumped over, one of them called the doctor and watched him run down the hall to give “her” a shake and saying wake up -wake up. Wondering if Dr. Bealer could please verify this.

When working at Rosehaven in Camrose she left for work at 7:00 a.m. only to return home an hour later a terrible sight, hair wet, clothes wet, and glasses all bent. When Evelyn was checking the bath water temperature in the tub an older lady in a wheelchair snuck up behind her and gave her a swift kick in the behind into the tub-she just fixed herself up and went right back to work.

Evelyn will be dearly missed by her husband, Stan; son, Brent; granddaughter, Brianna; great-grandson; Ashton, nieces Daina and Christy; sister-in-law- Joyce; brother-in-law, Gary and many more family and friends.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Genevieve and Edmund Sieben; her sister.

A donation can be made in Evelyn’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
