Evangelina Eva  Chavez Fraga

Evangelina (Eva) Chavez Fraga, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on June 19, 2025, surrounded by family. Eva was born (April 10, 1932) and raised in El Paso, TX. She graduated from Bowie High School in 1951 and was a proud Bowie Bear. She was a majorette with the Bowie Highschool band, a homecoming princess, a member of the tennis team, ROTC, and other clubs and organizations. After graduation she held several positions at Price’s Creameries and enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She married Jesus Roberto Fraga, also of El Paso, TX. They started their own business in 1967, Solano Portrait Center, a long-time successful portrait studio in Las Cruces, NM. She returned to school at the age of 65 and successfully completed an Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies. She became an active community volunteer, dedicating her efforts to promoting voting access and protecting voter rights.

She was loved by many and will always be remembered for her tremendous love for her family, vibrant and outgoing spirit, and joy in being with family and friends.

She is survived by her children David Fraga (Maggie Fraga), Lisa Mufich (Bill Mufich), Nadine Morrow (John Morrow), grandchildren Mariah Mufich, Madison Mufich, Archer Morrow, April Paz, Luis Nunez, Jovoni Nunez, and Steven Fraga, and six great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Jesus Roberto Fraga, mother, Ana Licon Alire, sisters Ana Alire Castillo and Juanita Munoz LeDay, and brothers Fernando Vargas and Ruben Alire.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Perches – Graham’s Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador Avenue, Las Cruces, NM, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. A mass celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street, Las Cruces, NM.
