Estate planning, workshops, Carson Follies and more lined up at Senior Center in August

History, local arts and culture, CPR training, workshops and the return of Carson Follies as a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels are among several programs and events the Carson City Senior Center has lined up in August. Tales from our National Parks – a Three-Part History Program

Join David and Gayle Woodruff for a three-part series navigating the bold idea of setting aside public lands for everyone to enjoy became a cornerstone of American democracy. Part one is on Tuesday, August 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the Nevada Room (west end) of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. A Conversation with Eric Brooks, Arts & Culture Program Manager for Visit Carson City

Listen to Eric Brooks speak about his role as Arts & Culture Program Manager on Tuesday, August 19 at 12:30pm in the Joshua Tree room (east end) of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Eric Brooks is responsible for implementing, organizing, managing, and evaluating programs and initiatives that promote cultural tourism and the arts in Nevada’s capital city, including special events, festivals, and public art projects. Meals on Wheels Fundraiser – Carson Follies presents “Follies for All Seasons”

In its 26th season, prepare to be entertained by the variety show raising money for Meals on Wheels the weekend of August 15-17 at the Bob Boldrick Theater. Tickets are sold online and at the door. For more information call (775) 883-0703 or visit carsoncityseniorcenter.org.

Estate Planning Workshop  

Learn all about estate planning – who, what, why, and how! Brought to you by attorney, Caren Jenkins, who will cover all topics related to estate planning of the course of a four-week series, Thursdays, August 7, 14, 21, 28 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Joshua Tree room (east end) at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Hazard Mitigation Public Workshop hosted at the Carson City Senior Center

Your voice matters! This meeting is a valuable opportunity to learn, ask questions, and contribute ideas that protect the future of our community to ensure the community is prepared for natural hazards such as wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and severe storms. The workshop is held on Tuesday, August 5, 1:30-3 p.m. & Wednesday, August 6, 10:30-12 p.m. in the east end of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Free event. RSVP is not necessary. Hands-Only CPR Class Offered for Seniors

Hands-only CPR, or compression-only CPR, is simple and easy to learn and perform on adults. Many people who survive a cardiac emergency are helped by a bystander. Learn how you can respond safely and effectively on Tuesday, September 2 at 2pm in the Nevada Room of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Class will be catered to seniors – you won’t need to get on the ground. Free event. Sign-up in reception by calling (775) 883-0703. Space is limited.

Seniors Ride Free – JAC Senior Bus Pass Renewals

Now is the time to renew your senior (60+) bus pass. Seniors aged 60 and over who reside in Carson City are eligible for a free bus pass, valid from 7/1/25-6/30/26. Visit the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Reception Desk (west end), Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a new bus pass.

Seeking Tech Help Volunteers

The Carson City Senior Center is expanding its Tech Help program and is seeking volunteers to help seniors with smartphone and computer use. If you are comfortable teaching others in a one-on-one setting at the Senior Center, we would love to have your help. High school students seeking volunteer hours are encouraged to apply for the summer! Flexible schedule during our business hours: Monday through Friday, 9-4pm. Dance Party & Potluck

Dance the night away with live music with Don and Nadine on Saturday, August 2 from 6-9pm. Admission is $10 per person and guests are asked to bring a dish to share. Dances are held the 1st Saturday of each month and is open to all ages. The dance is at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, in the Sagebrush Dining Room. RSVP is not necessary. Hidden Treasures Gift Shop Extends Hours

Unique hand-crafted items made by talented seniors such as quilts, baby blankets, bird houses, jewelry, placemats and many other one-of-a-kind, wonderful gifts are all found at the Hidden Treasures Gift Shop located inside the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. New hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call the Senior Center for more information (775) 883-0703.

Jewelry Making 101 – Wire Wrap Workshops

Learn how to make jewelry with the instructor, Irene Comstock. This workshop is held every Thursday through the end of August from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in the Job’s Peak Room (east end) of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. There is a $15 class fee each week and all supplies and tools are included. Attend every week or just once. Make sure to sign up for each week you want to attend by calling (775) 883-0703.
