Erna Dyck

Erna Betty (Dick) Dyck

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Erna Dyck, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia on Monday October 27th, 2025, at the age of 86 years.

Erna was born to Anna and Frank Dick in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 10, 1939. She was the youngest of six siblings, with 2 brothers, Peter & Frank, and 3 sisters, Mary, Annie and Susie.

She moved with her family, at the age of 5, to the Chilliwack area in the Fraser Valley, BC where she spent her youth taking piano lessons, picking berries in summer months, and. eventually graduating from high school.

In 1958 she married her sweetheart, John Dyck, whom she’d known for about 4 years. They bought a dairy farm in Agassiz and lived there until 1976 when they decided to sell and move north. Dawson Creek was the destination, and they have lived there happily ever since.

Erna was always involved in their farming operations, played piano for their local churches and was generous with her time, skills and baking! She went back to school at Northern Lights College to upgrade her secretarial/administrative skills in the 80’s and learned to operate a computer! It was a brave and bold step at that stage of her life, and she thrived once she found her first position at Rotary Manor, then later at the Dawson Creek Hospital.

She also enjoyed many motorcycle and 5th wheel road trips, and trips overseas with her husband John. She enjoyed many adventures and saw a great deal of the world.

After a 7-year battle with cancer, Erna’s body could do no more and she left us to enter the embrace of our Lord.

Erna is survived by her husband John Dyck; son Wesley (Anja) Dyck, daughter Wanda Dyck, daughter Brenda Dehn (Erv Dyck); grandchildren Heidi, Frank, Nicole, Joshua, Jackson, Jessie, Anika, Tyler, and Alicia; great-grandchildren Brody, Noah, Grace, Olivia, Paisley, Emily, William and Kassandra; sister Susie Neufeld; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Erna’s family would like to thank the medical staff at the Dawson Creek Hospital for their kindness and attention to Erna throughout her last days, and a very special thank you to the Oncology team for their years of kindness, support and genuine compassion throughout her Myeloma journey.

A Funeral Service for Erna will be held at the Dawson Creek Alliance Church on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00 am. Pauline Haycock will officiate. Interment to follow in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.  For those unable to join us in person, click on the following link to view the live stream:   https://youtube.com/live/iFDJHoRjXLs
