Elizabeth Saunders

Elizabeth “Liz” Saunders, CPA, died peacefully on August 5, 2025.

Born in Burlingame, California in 1957, Liz lived in California until moving with her large family to Scottsdale, Arizona where she attended OLPH Grade School.

She graduated from Gerard High School in Phoenix, then on to Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Her accounting career spanned 4 decades. During that time, Liz was employed as a controller for several real estate development and investment enterprises.

Liz loved singing with her church choirs at OLPH and at St. Joan of Arc, as well as with the North Valley Chorale. She was especially excited when the OLPH choir sang during Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Valley in 1987.

Liz enjoyed traveling, decorating, organizing, and reading, as well as excursions with friends and family.

She possessed a witty sense of humor and a strong sense of justice. She enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, and was always available to help a friend in need.

For 25 years, Liz could be counted on to plan and host the annual awesome Family Christmas Party, which included several generations of her large family and friends.

Liz is survived by Mary (Rick) Juergens and family, Kay Lamming and family, Margaret (Gene) Moan and family, Patricia Saunders McGuire and family, Eileen (Matt) Berens and family, Winnie (Dick) Stolper and family, Joan (Pete) Jorgenson and family, and Sheila (Chris) Broglia and family.

Visitation is Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 5pm with Rosary following at 6pm at Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale.

Funeral Mass is Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tempe, with a lunch reception following. Further details will be provided after the service.
