Edward Kay, Jr.

With heavy hearts, the family of Edward William Kay, Jr. announces his passing on July 23rd, 2025, at the age of 69. He lived every day until the last with joy, generosity, faith, and an indefatigable sense of fun. He is predeceased by his mother, Mary Margaret (Marge) Kay and his father Edward William Kay, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Kimberly Kennedy Kay; their four sons, Edward William Kay III (Jenna), Andrew Kennedy Kay (Emily), Timothy James Kay (Elizabeth), and Jeffrey Allan Kay; their six adoring grandsons (with another on the way) and one beautiful granddaughter.

Edward “Ed” Kay was a Certified Public Accountant who spent his 33-year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), retiring as Managing Partner for the Rochester office in 2012 after holding positions with PwC in Pittsburgh, London, Tampa, New York City, and Dallas. A calm and respectful presence in the workplace, Ed earned a B.S. in Accounting from Duke University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Northwestern University. Since his retirement, he has been an active board member for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, St. Bernard’s School of Theology, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Vuzix Corporation, Palmer Foods, Laxxon Medical, and the Greater Rochester YMCA.

A lifelong lover of golf, Ed gratefully volunteered his time and experience, notably serving as the Oak Hill Country Club President from 2010 to 2012 and as the Treasurer for the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill. For Ed, golf was not just a beloved game but a way to build and sustain the personal relationships he so valued. He eagerly awaited his annual golf trips with family and friends from every chapter of his life.

For his many accomplishments, it was clear that Ed’s greatest source of joy was always his family. Ed openly adored his wife, Kim, and never missed an opportunity to express his admiration, love, and pride. He cherished family reunions large and small, relishing the gentle ribbing of his sisters, brother, and many siblings-in-law. As a father and grandfather of a combined ten boys, his patience was legendary. “Papa Bear,” as he was known by many, was a permanent fixture at his grandsons’ baseball games, cherry slushie in hand. No matter how commonplace the occasion, Ed invariably took a moment to tell his loved ones how special it was to have that time together.

The family will be holding calling hours on Wednesday, July 30th, from 4pm to 7pm at Anthony Funeral Home, 2305 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY. They invite all those who wish to celebrate Ed’s life to join them for a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 31st, at 1pm at St. Louis Church, 64 S. Main Street, Pittsford, NY. There will be a reception to follow at Oak Hill Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edward W. Kay, Jr. may be made to St. Bernard’s School of Theology, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, St. Louis Catholic Church, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.
