Douglas Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Doug Smith on Sept 11, 2025. He fought a short, courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was 72 years old.

Doug was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. He was also a devout Christian, inquisitive about the Word and an active member of the church. It brings great comfort to know that he is now sitting with the Lord.

Recently retired, Doug spent most of his working career in the trucking industry. He was passionate about restoring 50’s cars, model railroading, music (drumming), painting and in his later years, sports. He was an avid user of YouTube, always bringing new conversations to family dinners about the things he had learned.

He is survived by his beloved wife Genny of 15 years, his children, Danny and Sarah (Justin) and grandchildren, Benson and Halle. His nieces Angela Degroot, Rachel O’Coin, Naomi & Kerry MacQueen. They will continue to honour his memory by living each day with the same humour and generosity he showed them. The family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from friends and the community.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Doug’s life on September 22, 2025, at 2 PM at Trinity CRC, 13427 57 St NW, Edmonton.

Live streaming will be available at https://www.youtube.com/live/nEuoTnsjoB8

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church (reference Doug Smith Memorial) by e-transfer to trinitycrcdonation@gmail.com
