Dorris Cameron
Dorris Isabelle Cameron, 94, of Hayden, Idaho peacefully passed away in Spokane, Washington on August 27, 2025.
Dorris (Hall) was born July 1, 1931 in Sanders County, Montana, to Virgil Nels Hall and Helen Cunningham. She was the second of four daughters and one son. She resided with her family in White Pine, Montana from 1931-1949. The Hall family had a ranch on Little Beaver Creek.
Dorris attended high school in Thompson Falls, Montana. After graduating, she moved to Spokane, Washington to further her education and find employment. It was here that she met her husband, Donald F. Cameron. Don was in the Air Force and stationed at Fairchild A.F.B. and Dorris was working for Montgomery Wards in the accounting department. They were married on July 3, 1950 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They were married for 73 years at the time of Don’s passing. Don and Dorris had five children: Donald Micheal “Mike”, Sandra Kay, Theresa Anne, David Patrick and Bruce Paul.
As a military family, Don and Dorris made their home in many places. His domestic duty assignments required the family to relocate to: Oklahoma, Maryland, Mississippi, Washington, Colorado, North Dakota and South Dakota. As a military wife, Dorris was left to care for their children while Don was deployed to Guam; Okinawa, Japan; Thule, Greenland; and while he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam war. Dorris said that she spent much of Don’s military time missing him and waiting for him to return home. After retiring from the Air Force in 1969, Don and Dorris continued their travels, residing in Rapid City, South Dakota; Glasgow, Montana; Libby, Montana; and Trout Creek, Montana. Their last stop was Hayden, Idaho, where they purchased their retirement home and spent the next 20 years.
Dorris spent her working years as a bookkeeper for various businesses. In her free time, she enjoyed oil painting, writing short stories, canning the vegetables from Don’s large garden and making jams from the fruits and berries. She was a meticulous housekeeper, good cook and a loving and devoted mother to her five children. Her husband, Don had a lapidary studio in their house. He cut and polished thousands of stones which he and Dorris fashioned into jewelry, windchimes, keychains and clocks. They sold their creations at craft fairs and over the internet.
Dorris leaves behind her children; Sandra Murillo (Jerry), Theresa Erwin (Kevin), David Cameron (Kris), Bruce Cameron; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Cameron (Mike), her grandchildren; Angela Gutierrez (Devon), Lindsey Chadwick (Ben), Brian Cameron, Christina Erwin, Clayton Cameron, and Cullin Cameron, great grandchildren; Tyler Hocking, Savannah Hocking, Mason Hochhalter, Seth Chadwick, and Vivian Erwin. Sadly, Dorris was preceded in death by her oldest son, Donald Micheal, “Mike” and her siblings; Verna, Gloria Jean, Dixie and Virgil Jay.
Dorris lived a very full life. She leaves her family with many wonderful memories and will be greatly missed.
There will be a viewing for Dorris held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at Yates Funeral Home- Coeur d’Alene Chapel (744 N. 4th Street, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814) with a rosary to start at 3:00 PM. The graveside service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM (MST) at Whitepine Cemetary – 3574 MT-200, Trout Creek, Montana, 59874.
